WB Knows Where the Wild Things Are

Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired Where the Wild Things Are out of turnaround from Universal Pictures, reports Variety.

The adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, which Spike Jonze will direct from a script he and novelist Dave Eggers wrote, is expected to get underway late in the year.

Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are producing, along with Sendak and John Carls.

Details of the Jonze-Eggers adaptation have been closely held, but the film will be a live-action feature that will likely require a sizable CGI budget, adds the trade.

Legendary Pictures, which has co-financed last summer's Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman Returns, will likely come aboard as a co-financer for the pic, which Warner Bros. is setting up as a tentpole.

Catherine Keener to Star in Wild Things

Better Than Fudge reports that Catherine Keener revealed on Thursday's The Charlie Rose Show that she will star in Warner Bros. Pictures' bigscreen Where the Wild Things adaptation:

"I'm getting ready to work with [Spike Jonze] again. He's doing 'Where the Wild Things Are'. He's doing it in New Zealand. I'm playing the mom looking for Max. Then there will be six actors or so performing the roles of the monsters, the wild things. And then Henson's company is making puppets."

The film is an adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, in which Max is sent to bed without supper and imagines sailing away to the land of Wild Things, where he is made king.

Keener previously starred in director Jonze's Being John Malkovich. She has starred recently in Friends with Money, Capote, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Interpreter and The Ballad of Jack and Rose.

Heisst auf deutsch übrigens "Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen".

Auch in dem Film Die Reise ins Labyrinth, der von Maurice Sendaks Büchern inspiriert ist, taucht ein "Wild Thing" auf. Sogar in einer Simpsons-Folge wird das Buch und seine Federzeichnungen zitiert.

Der Film könnte was werden, die Geschichte find ich schön und die Arbeit von Spike Jonze bisher fand ich auch alles andere als schlecht. Wird definitiv im Auge behalten.
