Constantin Film and Davis Films are reteaming to produce Resident Evil: Afterlife, the third installment of the franchise based on the popular video games, says The Hollywood Reporter.

German-based Constantin and Samuel Hadida's Davis Films also partnered on the previous chapters. Screen Gems scooped up distribution rights for North America, Latin America, the U.K., Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Portugal, South Africa, India and Pakistan.

"Afterlife" will be set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with mutant zombies. The film will play in the Nevada desert with the Aussie outback standing in for the American wasteland. The third film will likely to set up the fourth installment, in which the action shifts to Japan.

Paul W.S. Anderson is writing the screenplay and Milla Jovovich is returning as Alice.

Jill Valentine Returns, Anderson to Direct?!

The beautiful Sienna Guillory is set to reprise her role as Jill Valentine in Sony Screen Gems' Resident Evil: Afterlife, according to Wikipedia. Also returning (obviously) is the leading lady Milla Jovovich, who will once again play Alice, while Mike Epps announced a few weeks back that he would return during an interview. Our scooper also sent us in these exclusive bits: we can "EXPECT" Leon Kennedy and Wekser (characters from the game) to appear in the film and that shocking enough- Paul W.S. Anderson is tapped to direct once again, off a script he is currently writing. This is all considered rumor until confirmed. Now aiming at a 2007 release, Afterlife will be set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with mutant zombies.

Like the undead themselves, modern zombie movies keep coming and coming. Get ready for at least one more, Paul W.S. Anderson told MTV News.

Well, maybe.

“Resident Evil: Extinction,” the third video-game to big screen adaptation in the popular series will likely not be the last, Anderson said, although talks for a fourth film are still in the very earliest stages of development.

“I’m just starting to talk to Sony about it,” Anderson confessed. “I don’t even know if anything will come of it, but there’s a possibility it might happen.”

It would seem like a sure thing given the ending of “Extinction,” which saw Alice (Milla Jovovich) beside herself with rage — literally, thanks to hundreds of perfect clones - promising to travel to the Umbrella Corporation’s headquarters in Japan. But Anderson, who scripted the first three films, says a concrete story hasn’t yet been decided upon. In fact, it’s coming up with a plausible, kick-ass story that’s momentarily holding him up.

“I love the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise and we always try to make the best possible movie we can. If we could find a good ‘Resident Evil 4’ to make, then we would do it,” he said. “But I wouldn’t just do it for the sake of it, that’s for sure.”

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. US-Starttermin passt perfekt mit meinem Urlaub überein, Trailer sieht nett aus, den Look hat man wiederum etwas verändert, ist echtes 3D (und kein "Clash of..."-Mist) - ich persönlich freu mich (demnach) drauf!

Hm... Na das sieht ja wieder nach einer ordentlichen Portion Geballer aus, mit Blutspritzern und Slowmotion-Szenen in 3D. Weniger das, was man aus den vorigen Teilen kennt, aber hey, 3D!!!
Nein, ernsthaft, ich werde mir diesen Film auf jeden Fall im Kino ansehen... Ich weiß auch bereits die perfekte Freunde-Besetzung für dieses dreidimensionale Blutbad  (... Bin ich froh, dass es nicht 4D ist...  )

Ein wenig.

Bin gestern Abend im Kino gewesen - zum Ersten Mal seit Jahren mal wieder. Und auch mein allererster Film in 3D! Und wie schon in einigen Selbstversuchen mit Rot/Grün-Brillen und dergleichen festgestellt, nehme ich die 3D-Darstellung einfach nicht wahr! Bei mir bleibt alles zweidimensional und flach auf der Leinwand! 3D ist deshalb für mich jetzt ganz offiziell nicht nur überflüssig - was es vorher ja schon war - sondern auch tot!

Der Film an sich ist ganz klar auf die Effekthascherei ausgelegt und bleibt inhaltlich leider ziemlich flach. Für mich ganz klar der schwächste Teil der Reihe! Erneut auch wieder die Bestätigung, dass Synchronisationen einfach grausam sind!
