Als nächstes Horror Remake steht nun Fisch-Schocker Piranha an, der bereits einmal inklusive Sequel (sehr schlecht) neu verfilmt wurde. Der neue Film soll mit prähistorischen Piranhas zu tun haben, die Jagd auf jugendliche Urlauber machen.

Das Budget liegt bei 20 Millionen Dollar.

According to Variety, Gallic film company Wild Bunch is jumping into the deep end with a Piranha remake. The company has a script for the project, penned by Eraser and The Scorpion King helmer Chuck Russell, that it will market for the first time at AFM.
Wild Bunch handled international sales on George Romero's Land of the Dead, flogging worldwide rights to Universal, and it distributed the film theatrically in France.
Budgeted at E16 million-E20 million ($19.3 million-$24.1 million) and produced by Chiller Films, Piranha will shoot in the U.S. in March or April, Wild Bunch said Wednesday. Cast is not yet in place. [...]

There are some remakes you can't help but gag at, but then there are the ones you can't wait for... Piranha being one of them. Announced a few months back was a remake of the 1978 film "Piranha," in which a particularly nasty prehistoric strain of the flesh-eating fish is unleashed in Arizona's Lake Havasu just as college kids come to party there. Chuck Russell was attached to the script, and that's all we knew at the time- today the film was officially announced as a Dimension Films picture, which can mean only one thing- theatrical Piranhas!! Read on for the full details on the director and new storyline...

Dimension Films will distribute "Piranha," the remake of the 1978 horror hit being produced by Mark Canton from Atmosphere MM and Marc Toberoff from Intellectual Properties Worldwide, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The company picked up rights to U.S. and all English-speaking territories from IPW, Atmosphere/Relativity Media and Wild Bunch.

Chuck Russell ("The Mask"/"Scorpion King"/"Nightmare 3") is in negotiations to direct from a script he wrote adapting the original movie. In the remake, the story is set in Lake Havasu, Ariz., which sits on a crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption. When a tremor cracks the lake floor open, prehistoric piranhas are set loose and people begin to disappear. Russell's screenplay uses elements from drafts by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger and the original screenplay by John Sayles from a story by Richard Robinson.

Gigantic news this evening as IESB has reported that Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) will helm Dimension's remake of Piranha. Chuck Russell, who wrote the screenplay, was originally attached to direct. More news as it comes in, watch for an official announcement soon! Piranha was a Jaws spoof directed by Joe Dante and produced by Roger Corman in 1978. Universal Studios tried to stop the film from being released (because of its satirizing of Universal's Jaws films), but Steven Spielberg saw the film in advance and liked it. There was a sequel - Piranha II: The Spawning, which was the directorial debut of one James Cameron.

“I think I picked the worst project for me,” says director Alexandre Aja about his latest project, PIRANHA 3-D, which begins shooting this summer for Dimension release next July. Oddly, he sounds extremely happy about this. “You cannot do worse than water, underwater kids, spring break, shooting during summer, a lot of CGI, a lot of prosthetics. I have the worst elements for a movie, but the project was so exciting that I cannot not do it. It’s going to be a huge challenge; we’re going to sweat lots, work our asses off.”

Aja says that this film, which he scripted with his usual partner Grégory Levasseur from an original draft by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, is not a remake per se of Joe Dante’s 1978 PIRANHA. “It’s a new story,” he says, providing a clue as to the nature of his killer fish. “We are working with Neville Page [who did creature design on CLOVERFIELD, AVATAR and J.J. Abrams’ upcoming STAR TREK remake]. When we went to meet Neville for the first time, he told me, ‘My two passions are prehistoric times and fish. So you cannot find a better person than me.’ So it’s going to be based on real prehistoric fish, but it’s going to be an original creation.” “I want this movie to be the new reference in gore—a bloody, scary, fun time. It was revealed that filming was pushed back and that the trailer is expected to debut with FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D on August 21st. Shue Dives into Alex Aja's Piranha 3D

Rumors have been swimming about pinning actress Elisabeth Shue to Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D. Turns out, they're correct.

Moviehole confirmed her involvement, citing two sources on board this redo of Joe Dante's film, and says Shue will play "Sheriff Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria." Forester is also the mother of one of the lead characters.

Piranha 3D begins rolling soon in Arizona. Dimension Films releases it in theaters on March 19, 2010.

ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Richard Dreyfuss will be making a cameo appearance in Dimension Films' Piranha 3D. The New York Post's "Page Six" is also reporting that Ving Rhames is set to join Elisabeth Shue and Adam Scott in the film.

Director Alexandre Aja starts shooting the horror-thriller next month in Arizona for a March 19, 2010 release.

Some interesting news came out of the TIFF screening of THE HOLE 3D when a fan asked Joe Dante why he didn't direct Dimension's PIRANHA 3-D remake. Dancing off of the idiotic question, Dante somehow flipped the conversation onto the way Alexandre Aja filmed it, revealing that it's not actually shot in 3D. The iconic director, whose film THE HOLE was shot on set in 3D, explained that Aja filmed the remake with one camera and will be digitally making it 3D in post, while adding CGI piranha that will be "Pixar-like 3D." SDCC '10: Plenty of Goodies in Store for Piranha 3D DVD

Director Alex Aja assured us this afternoon that when Piranha 3D swims onto DVD and Blu-Ray, it will be a director's cut.

"People will be more surprised of the director's cut of the film," he says. "Five or six minutes of extreme footage will be put back in. Piranha is a pretty expensive movie and it is not only sustaining the genre, but the audience, so we had to get rid of some of the violence and other stuff, but DVD is more open."

He adds some bonus sexiness will be included in the package including "Wild, Wild Girls" webisodes along with a lengthy documentary on the making of the film. Also look for storyboards for some of the bigger scenes that got cut due to budget.

Der für harte Kost bekannte Regisseur Alexandre Aja („The Hills Have Eyes“) serviert uns sein Remake des Kultfilms von 1978 in 3D. Aber nicht nur optisch setzt er noch einen drauf. Auch die Story genehmigt sich einige Wendungen und viel makaberen Humor, der das Publikum im Kinosessel nach Luft schnappen lässt. In den Hauptrollen sind Elisabeth Shue („Hollow Man“), Ving Rhames („Dawn Of The Dead“), Jessica Szohr („Gossip Girl“), Steven R. In binnen 4 Jahren bringt der französische Regisseur Alexandre Aja nach "The Hills Have Eyes" und "Mirrors" nun seine bereits dritte Neuverfilmung eines schon einmal verfilmten Stoffes auf die große Leinwand. Doch ähnlich wie bei "Mirrors" ist es im Grunde kein Remake, sondern vielmehr seine Geschichte und seine verrückte Idee, die blutrünstigen Fische in Szene zu setzen.

Es ist Spring Break am Lake Victoria. Das heißt, dass viele hundert feierwütige Amerikaner eine verschlafene Kleinstadt stürmen, um eine Woche voller Exzess, Party und Freiheit einzuläuten. Dass diese aber die Rechnung ohne einen Schwarm hungriger prähistorischer Piranhas gemacht haben, wird sich schnell als großer Fehler herausstellen, denn die Fische haben seit Millionen von Jahren unterhalb des Sees ausgeharrt und somit einen unheimlich großen Appetit angestaut.

Es klingt wie eine Horrorkomödie, es ist eine Horrorkomödie. Und was für eine. Zuerst reibt man sich verwundert die Augen, dass sich Alexandre Aja, der sich eher durch kompromissloses Terrorkino á la "Haute Tension" oder "The Hills Have Eyes" eine große Fangemeinde im Horrorgenre aufbauen konnte, für derartige Banalitäten hinreißen ließ, aber dieser Gedanke verfällt schnell, denn mit "Piranha 3D" hat der Franzose überraschenderweise einen derben Knaller hingelegt.
Ausgeschmückt mit diversen Visualisierungen von Sex, nackten Körpern, wippenden Bikinioberteilen und prallen Hinterteilen gelingt es Aja, eine ironisch witziges Splatter-Feuerwerk abzubrennen, bei dem sein Blick auf die amerikanische Konsumgesellschaft in Form der Spring Breaker mehr als blutig ausfällt.
Gekonnt und überaus humorvoll befriedigt der Film niedere Gelüste und fährt dabei schwere Geschütze auf. Dass abgetrennte und abgenagte Körperteile, blutüberströmte Amerikaner, viel Geschrei und kein Ausweg aus der Hölle so viel Spaß überbringen können, klingt banal, aber Alexandre Aja serviert sie stets mit einem gewaltigen Augenzwinkern. Er rechnet gnadenlos mit bekannten Gesichtern wie Eli Roth ("Hostel"-Regisseur), Richard Dreyfuss (Matt Hooper aus "Jaws"), Ving Rhames und Jerry O'Connell ab und wirft sich zum Vergnügen der Zuschauer stets kreativ und plastisch den Piranhas zum Fraß vor. Dass auch prominente Pornogrößen wie Gianna Michaels, Ashlynn Brooke und Riley Steele ihr Fett wegkriegen, steigert den Spaß ungemein. Dazu gesellen sich noch Elisabeth Shue und Christopher Lloyd, die beide natürlich an ganz bestimmte Charaktere erinnern sollen.

Trotz des Schlachtfestes bleibt der Film immer spannend und hält die Balance zwischen Action und Humor. Er verlässt bewährtes Fahrwasser nie, lässt aber alles überspitzt, blutig und überaus wild darstellen. Er steuert zielgerichtet auf das vermeintliche Ende hin und macht keine Gefangenen. Man hat jederzeit das Gefühl, dass sich Aja schon sehr lange (das Drehbuch zu "Piranha 3D" war eines der ersten Scripte, welches er nach seinem Film "Haute Tension" in Amerika zu Gesicht bekam) auf die Inszenierung dieses Splatterwerks gefreut und viel Leidenschaft hineingelegt hat.
Ja, es ist ein Geschmetzel am Lake Victoria, das wohl zu den blutigsten des Horrorgenres gehört, aber es ist auch ein herrlich überdrehter Spaß, der nie bescheuert - gar langweilig wirkt. Somit wundert sich der Zuschauer z.B. auch nicht, wie zwei Mädels zu opernhafter Musik minutenlang ohne Sauerstoff im Wasser verbringen können und dabei ihre nackten Körper an sich reiben.

Ins Kino gehen, Popcorn speisen und das Bier ploppen lassen.

 


PS: Die Freude auf den verlängerten Director's Cut ist natürlich dementsprechend groß.

    Ich freu' mich schon auf den Film, aber zur Zeit gibt es ja Berichte über einen anderen Fisch, den Tigersalmler, da stinken wohl die (echten) Piranhas ab!





Der Tigersalmler ist ganze 1,5 Meter lang und wiegt 45 Kilogramm.
Laut Angler Jeremy Wade (Bild), der das stolze Exemplar aus dem afrikanischen Kongo-Fluss zog, hat der Horror-Fisch Zähne so groß wie die eines Weißen Hais.
Daher verwundert es kaum, dass er sogar Krokodile angreift.
