Im Jahre 1987 bekam es Arnold Schwarzenegger unter der Regie von John McTiernan mit dem Predator zu tun, nun könnte McTiernan einen neuen Helden gegen den Predator ins Feld ziehen lassen.
Zumindest gibt es Gerüchte, dass Fox mit McTiernan über einen entsprechenden Film verhandelt. Bei dem neuen Film soll es sich aber weder um ein Prequel noch um ein Sequel handeln. Es soll ein neuer Anfang der Geschichte werden.
In dem Drehbuch, welches angeblich schon kursiert, soll die Hauptperson der Sohn von Schwarzeneggers Charakter aus dem 1987er Film sein. Gerüchte über einen Hauptdarsteller gibt es natürlich auch schon. John Cena, ein Wrestler, wird gehandelt.

Looks like the PREDATOR remake rumors were a little premature. At least the casting rumors were. Last week it started circulating around the net that WWE wrestler John Cena had been tapped to take over the role of Schwarzenegger's Dutch in a new version of that invisible alien hunter madness.
Fortunately, while it's impossible to say for sure that some studio exec somewhere isn't toying with the idea, one of our loyal readers has pointed out that any hard evidence has been reputed by John Cena himself over at the WWE website. In 5 Questions with John Cena he answers viewer emails and the third question is about the remake (around the 5 minute mark).
The answer - He has not been approached about it and has heard nothing about it except from internet folks chasing down the rumor. He seems like a funny guy though, so here's hoping he gets some cool opportunities. Check out the video here. Then we can all take a collective sigh of relief.

'Predator 3' (won't be called that), would be a brand new chapter in the series - and all those rumors about it starring The Rock or John Cena as Schwarzenegger's character, Dutch, aren't true. One bit of a interesting talk is that Sylvester Stallone might be being coaxed to do battle with the new "Predator". Guess they're thinking someone who can equal Arnie's statue? Not that he'd be playing the same character. I'd say that the plan is solely on FOXs end, and not Sly's end - who seems to have enough 'franchises' on the go.

Robert Rodriguez and 20th Century Fox are giving Predator a facelift in a new film entitled Predators. First reported by Bloody-Disgusting in January, the official announcement came today via a news conference today at the Texas-based Troublemaker Studios where Rodriguez was on hand for the signing of a new state film incentive.

"I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming 'Machete' here, a sci-fi action film called 'Nerverackers,' a re-boot of the 'Predator' series called 'Predators,' and a couple of smaller movies called 'Sin City 2' and 'The Jetsons,'" he told the press.

If you recall, Rodriguez penned a Predator 3 script some time ago that was discarded because it was "too big."

The boys over at Moviehole.net, were tipped off that Rodriguez had ''reached out to Schwarzenegger'' in recent days, and have gone as far as to confirm it. "Rodriguez is indeed courting Schwarzenegger for the movie – but so far it’s a one-way conversation." (Bloody Disgusting)

Ain't it Cool News' Harry Knowles gave a ring to Robert Rodriguez to get confirmation on who's at the helm of Predators, 20th Century Fox's next film in the franchise. And it is Nimrod Antal, the man behind the upcoming action flick Armored and who last dabbled in the thriller genre with Vacancy. You'll recall Latino Review broke Antal's potential involvement here.

Rodriguez, who is shepherding the project, says the story involves "a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors - that are not always from outside their group. So like the original movie, the title does have a double meaning. 'Aliens' was a different take on the Alien idea, and an original movie in it's own right, and that's what we want to do with this."

We told you it was coming and sure enough, Variety has announced the entire cast for Robert Rodriguez's Predators, which will be headlined by Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody (King Kong, The Pianist) as the mercenary Royce.

At the same time, The Hollywood Reporter's "Heat Vision Blog" is reporting that actor Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3, "That '70s Show") is in negotiations to join Brody as Edwin, an accountant who is in fact a dangerous serial killer.

The rest of the multinational cast includes the aforementioned Danny Trejo and Walton Goggins from "The Shield" as well as Alice Braga (I Am Legend), Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali ("The 4400"), and Louiz Ozawa. The Variety story doesn't reveal which character all of them might be playing but you can get some idea by checking out Latino Review's preview.

Directed by Nimrod Antal, the Hungarian filmmaker behind Vacancy and the upcoming Screen Gems crime thriller Armored, the movie is about to start shooting on location in Hawaii and Rodriguez's Austin-based Troublemaker Studios.

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has posted more details on which characters they will play:

Written by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the script follows a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators.

Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.

Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent.

Trejo, already cast, is Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.

Predators: Regisseur gibt angestrebtes Rating bekannt

Im Juli nächsten Jahres wird Predators von Nimród Antal (Kontroll, Motel) in die Kinos kommen. Der 3. Teil der Filmreihe, die mit Arnold Schwarzeneggers Ausflug in den Dschungel begann, wird von Robert Rodriguez' Troublemaker Studios und von 20th Century Fox produziert.

Wie bei sovielen Genre-Filmen wird es im Netz in den Monaten vor dem Release zahlreiche Diskussionen um die Schauspieler (hier insbesondere Adrien Brody (Der Pianist) und Topher Grace (70s Show)), der Handlung und auch der Altersfreigabe geben. Die Auswirkungen auf das Einspiel können verheerend sein, wenn sich unter den Fans eine negative Grundstimmung gegenüber dem Film breitmacht. Gerade 20th Century Fox ist hier vorbelastet und genießt wenig Vertrauen der Fans.

Bei FOX (die auch Stirb Langsam 4.0 leider erfolgreich ein Kiddie-Image verpasst haben) ist die Gefahr groß, dass man Predators mit einem PG-13 in die Kinos kriegen möchte. Man machte sich zwar mit dem zahmen und für viele ärgerlichen ersten Alien vs. Predator (PG-13) so wenig Freunde, dass man Teil 2 dann doch wieder mit R-Rating in die Kinos brachte und diesen Umstand bis zum Erbrechen in der Werbekampagne miteinfließen lies, blieb mit diesem R-Experiment aber hinter dem Einspiel des 1. Teils zurück. Gerade in den USA wurde nur die Hälfte des Vorgängers an der Kinokasse eingespielt (beide waren dennoch lukrativ). Aus wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten wäre ein PG-13 für Predators also vertretbar, da Studios gegenwärtig auf der Suche sind nach massentauglichen und erfolgreichen Franchises und vieles mit Ecken und Kanten (wie einem R-Rating) nicht mehr so gerne selbst in Angriff nehmen.

Um zumindest der R/PG-13-Diskussion im nächsten Jahr aus dem Weg zu gehen, macht Regisseur Nimród Antal also jetzt schon deutlich, dass der Film definitiv R-Rated sein wird. Die Rating-Frage war es wohl nach Meinung vieler, die in den USA Terminator Salvation dieses Jahr das Genick brach. Rodriguez' Beteiligung und die Versicherung, dass die Federführung bei Troublemaker Studios und nicht bei FOX liegt, sollen weitere negative Kritik im Vorfeld so sehr einschränken, wie es nur geht.

In Predators strandet eine Gruppe von Elite-Soldaten auf einem Predator-Planeten. Es wird kein Reboot der Serie sein, sondern ein echtes Sequel und eine Verbindung zu AVP soll es nicht geben. Ob die $40 Millionen-Produktion am Ende dann doch wirklich unter bestmöglichen Voraussetzungen in die Kinos kommt, muss sich natürlich noch zeigen. Vielleicht bekommt FOX am Ende ja doch noch kalte Füße.

Jip, im Free-TV. An dem gefielen mir noch ganz andere Dinge nicht, die aber eher mit meinem persönlichen Geschmack in Zusammenhang stehen. "Armored" hab ich nicht gesehen - aber von den Kritiken (und so) her klingt der genau danach.

Der Trailer hier sieht wie Teil 1 plus AvP (1&2) aus - und das basierend auf dem "the Most dangerous Game"-Storygerüst.
