Yep, den Original-Punisher hätte ich auch noch gerne. Fand den für Lundgren-Verhältnisse ziemlich cool.

As for the future of the live-action Frank Castle, Jane say's he'll be back in the title role in a sequel soon enough.

"They're really hot on the sequel since the DVD has sold so well," said Jane. "They're in the process right now of budgeting a sequel. We should have it in the next two weeks, sort of a preliminary budget, and then we'll start talking story, then writer and then we'll get going. I'll be involved in the story development. I probably won't be credited as such, but I'll definitely have input as to what I want to do."

The moderator asked Thomas Jane about there being rumors of a possible Punisher 2. Thomas' respone was....."Oh, is that still just a rumor?" We all perked up, Niles asked Jane if he could talk about this, and Thomas said "Why Not." Jane let the cat out of the bag and told the room that yesterday at a studio in north Dallas (he dropped the name, but I don't remember it), they filmed the teaser for Punisher 2. Tom O'Brien, the cover art model of Frank Castle for the Punisher comics who was also at the Con, was also at the shoot yesterday in full costume. Jane said that on his phone, he owns the only picture of himself and the "real" Punisher, both in full costume, standing next to each other. No word on when or where we will see this trailer though.
Jane said that while the script is not finished, he is working closely with the team. He said that he is doing EVERYTHING he can do to get the setting moved to the borroughs of New York and that Jigsaw is "more than likely" going to be the villian in the movie.

Wizard World Los Angeles got underway today at the Long Beach Convention Center. In attendance was none other than the Punisher himself, Thomas Jane.
After he made a stop at the Golden Apple booth I had the chance to ask a few questions regarding the future of Frank Castle.
Thomas Jane told the IESB that the Punisher sequel script is currently being worked on and they expect production to start in two months. Location wise it looks like Tampa is out and New York is in.

Thomas Jane, star of 2004's comic-inspired The Punisher, told SCI FI Wire that he's been working out to prepare for the sequel, which begins filming sometime before the end of the year. Jane will again play outlaw vigilante Frank Castle, he said in an interview. "I've been in the gym for seven weeks now," Jane said. "I've already put on 12 pounds of muscle. They want to start going before the end of the year. Ideally I'd like to see the film come out in the fall of 2006, but I don't have any control over that."

Jane said that he was "not at liberty" to say who will be writing and directing the sequel, and he wouldn't confirm that the storyline would take place in an urban setting, possibly New York. "That is the rumor," he said.

Jane's Punisher was only a moderate success at the box office, but the longtime Punisher comic fan said that he feels the franchise still has great potential. (Dolph Lundgren previously played Castle in a poorly received 1989 movie of the same name.)

"I still believe The Punisher has so much material to be mined," Jane said. "There's so much new ground to be broken. I would love to see The Punisher go more in the direction of a film like Taxi Driver. I'd like the audience to be able to visit the mind of this guy. The potential for The Punisher—especially when it comes to the real juicy stuff—should go more in the direction of a gritty, urban street drama like Taxi Driver rather than a glossy, fantasy direction like the X-Men

Thomas Jane on The Punisher 2
Source: RedIsNotBlue, Kable24, March 25, 2006

ThomasJane.com has posted an updated from Thomas Jane on The Punisher 2:

Can you confirm (or even speculate) that Punisher 2 will start filming in the summer? I'm just asking because a fan who met you while you were shooting Killshot mentioned that you said the P2 shoot would start this summer.

Not anymore! P2 is still looking for a good story at this point. We're working on it, and hope to have a script by the fall.

It’s said at least once a month, and now Thomas Jane is saying it again: "The Punisher 2" is coming. The sequel to the Marvel comic book film - which was only a lukewarm success - has been in the works for a couple of years now, but according to its star - who’s very keen to don the black Skull-adorned shirt again - it’s closer now than it’s ever been (hang on, that sounds like something Lucas would say about "Indiana Jones 4"). "The script comes in a couple of weeks, and it's going to be darker, bloodier and more unfriendly than the first one," Jane tells MTV.

Jonathan Hensleigh: The storyline is original but a lot of the situations and the character Jigsaw, of course, is from the comic. But the story arc itself is original. Let me give you some insight into the script problems. The script problems, again, mostly relate to budget. Lionsgate wants a very intense urban action film but at the same time there’s not a corporate will to spend an enormous amount of money on the film nor should there be. This is a specialty film with a very rabid but smaller canvas. So what we’re trying to do is figure out a way to shoot a really intense urban action film with lots of violence and lots of intense, gritty action for a price and that involves a lot of script work. You’ve got to figure out how to do big, extravagant, action-based stuff but do it for cheap. We’re probably also going to have to shoot in a weird place.

New Writer Boards The Punisher 2
Source: BigFanBoy.com, December 18, 2006

BigFanBoy.com talked to Thomas Jane about The Punisher sequel. He revealed that Stuart Beattie (the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, 30 Days of Night, Collateral) is writing the new script. Jane also described the film:

Concerning The Punisher 2, Tom says he'd like to make a drama, without any goofy stuff. "Just straight noir, drama, with the inherent blood and guts in it." Jane also says it will definitely take place in New York.

Jane Pulls Out of The Punisher 2
Source: Ain't It Cool News, May 15, 2007

Ain't It Cool News received a note from Thomas Jane which says that the actor has pulled out of Lionsgate's The Punisher 2. Here's a bit from the letter:

What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I'll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch.
