Öhm, ich beschreib' mal kurz meine Gedankengänge.

1.) Geiles Poster???
2.) Muss ein Horrorfilm sein.
3.) Aus Korea? Geil!

Dann schaute ich Trailer:

5.) Oh, da kommt ja noch mehr.
6.) Das Monster sieht immerhin cool aus.

Und tjo. Irgendwie enttäuschend, das es eigentlich gar nix mit dem Poster zu tun hat? Das gefällt mir außerordentlich gut und würde eigentlich zu einem geilen Horrorfilm passen.

Bei dem Clip fiel mir eine Szene positiv auf. Und zwar jene, in der Leute in so einen Container rennen und eine Tussi leider draußen bleiben muss. In jedem Hollywoodfilm wäre die Tussi doch dann gefressen worden, oder? Aber nicht so hier, geil. \o_O/

Variety reports:

A South Korean monster movie about a huge amphibious mutant, which made a big splash at Cannes in May, is looking ripe for a Hollywood remake.

Multiple studios are said to be circling "The Host," which has a U.S. distribution deal with Magnolia Pictures. Sales agent Cineclick Asia expects to wrap up a deal on remake rights in the early fall.

Apart from the film's digital effects (courtesy of San Francisco's the Orphanage) and political barbs (aimed at both the Korean and U.S. governments), "The Host" marks an international coming-out party for Bong Joon-ho. Helmer, who previously directed fest hit "Memories of Murder," is poised to join Park Chan-wook ("Oldboy") and Kim Ki-duk ("Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring") as the best known figures of South Korea's film renaissance.

Bong's next projects will be a smaller-scale drama about a mother and her son, which could start shooting this year, and a big-budget adaptation of the French sci-fi comicbook "Le transperceneige."

The director reportedly has received offers from at least one top-level U.S. producer to direct in Hollywood, however, so Bong's plans could be in for a change.

Synopsis
Gang-du is a dim-witted man working at his father's tiny snack bar near the Han River. One day, Gang-du's one and only daughter Hyun-seo comes back from school irritated. She is angry at her uncle, Nam-il, who visited her school as her guardian shamelessly drunk. Ignoring her father's excuses for Nam-il, Hyun-seo is soon engrossed in her aunt Nam-joo's archery tournament on TV. Meanwhile, outside of the snack bar, people are fascinated by an unidentified object hanging onto a bridge. In an instant, the object reveals itself as a terrifying creature turning the riverbank into a gruesome sea of blood¡¦ Amid the chaos, Hyun-seo is helplessly snatched up by the creature right before Gang-du's eyes. These unforeseen circumstances render the government powerless to act. But receiving a call of help from Hyun-seo, the once-ordinary citizen Gang-du and his family are thrust into a battle with the monster to rescue their beloved Hyun-seo.

THE HOST ist kein reiner Science-Fiction-Film, denn er untergräbt unentwegt sein eigenes Genre. Bong Joon-ho sorgt für Schock-Effekte und bietet dem Zuschauer gleichzeitig eine Geschichte mit politischen Anspielungen, starken Figuren und Slapstickhumor. Die spektakulären Digital-Effekte stammen von der Firma "The Orphanage" (Day After Tomorrow, Sin City). Ich schaute heute The Host. (Asia Filmfest Frankfurt).

Tjo. Sorry, aber der war fast schon etwas zu lustig. Selbst wenn jemand stirbt, gibt es noch etwas zu lachen. Ich hatte damit teilweise etwas Probleme, da so natürlich keinerlei Spannung aufkommt. Tjo, ansonsten war das Monster nett gemacht, aber... tjo.. Sonst eigentlich nix?! Ich bekam ja nichtmal die "social commentary" mit. Immerhin war er nicht zu lang.



(Wollte ursprünglich nur 2 Kappen vergeben, aber da er als Monster-Komödie ansonsten Tadellos funktioniert, wäre das nicht wirklich gerecht.)

Das ist natürlich dann unpraktisch.

Hollywood Filmmaker Shows Interest in Remaking "The Host"
   
   
Renowned Hollywood filmmaker Michael Bay is interested in producing a remake of the movie "The Host," according to Hollywood film producer Roy Lee, who bought the copyrights to a future remake.

Lee said the script of the upcoming remake of "The Host" is currently under adaptation and that the major production firm Universal Pictures would produce the remake.

Lee has so far remade a host of Japanese, Hong Kong and Korean movies in Hollywood including "The Ring," "The Grudge" and "The Lake House." Currently, he is preparing the remakes of the Korean movies "My Sassy Girl," "Old Boy" and "The Poisoning" in addition to "The Host."

Lee will present on the popularity of Korean culture overseas at the Seoul Digital Forum on May 31.

Taugenichts Gang-Du (Song Kang-ho) arbeitet am Han-Fluss im Kiosk seines Vaters (Byeon Hie-bong) und verbringt dort die meiste Zeit schlafend hinter dem Tresen. Als seine einzige Tochter Hyuen-seo (Ko Ah-sung) eines Tages völlig aufgelöst von der Schule heimkehrt, weil sich ihr Onkel Nam-il (Park Hae-il) als Erziehungsberechtigter ausgegeben hat, geschehen merkwürdige Dinge am Fluss. Die zahlreichen Ausflügler starren gebannt auf ein Objekt, das reglos unter der Brücke hängt. Auf einmal erwacht das Wesen und richtet ein Blutbad unter den Menschen am Flussufer an. Als sich das riesige Monster zurückzieht verschleppt es auch Hyun-seo. Es folgt die Räumung durch das Militär und alle beteiligten Personen werden unter Quarantäne gestellt. Als sich die totgeglaubte Hyun-seo überraschend bei ihrem Vater meldet wird ihm von Seiten des Militärs und der Polizei keinerlei Beachtung geschenkt. Familie Park, zu der auch noch Schwester Nam-Joo (Bae Du-na) gehört, bleibt nichts anderes übrig als aus dem Krankenhaus zu flüchten und sich selbst auf die Suche zu machen. Gelingt es ihnen Hyun-seo zu finden und dabei am Leben zu bleiben?

Regisseur Bong Joon-ho schuf mit The Host den koreanischen Blockbuster schlechthin. Mit über 13 Millionen verkauften Tickets – bei knapp 48 Millionen Koreanern – steht der Film unangefochten an der Spitze des koreanischen Boxoffice (Platz 2: Tazza: The High Rollers 6,8 Mio Tickets). Bong Joon-ho wagt dann besetzungstechnisch auch keine Experimente und so sind die männlichen drei Hauptdarsteller bereits alle in seinem Meisterwerk Memories Of Murder zu sehen. Angeführt von "Mr. Vengeance" Song Kang-ho (Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, JSA - Joint Security Area) liefern alle Darsteller eine gute Performance ab. Das teils am Computer generierte, teils als Modell verfügbare Monster ist zwar keine Ausgeburt an Perfektion a la Alien, erfüllt aber seinen Zweck. Der vielmals kritisierte humoristische Unterton viel mir auch nicht negativ auf, trägt er doch viel zum Charme des Filmes und der Charaktere bei. Insbesondere Byeon Hie-bong (Lovely Rivals) als Familienoberhaupt weiß hier zu überzeugen. . Insgesamt also rundum gelungene Unterhaltung made in Korea.

Korea Jumps on the Post-Conversion Bandwagon (Late) With 'The Host'

File this under "who gives a sh*t."

The Host has returned with an extra dimension, but the makers of the new 3D version say it remains true to the 2006 South Korean monster thriller, writes THR.

While we're already talking about the platform dying here in the States, The Host 3D is the country's first conversion project that adds 3D effects to the original 2D film. The original Bong Joon-ho film remains the top-grossing local film of all-time, having drawn over 13 million viewers in a country of 48 million people.

Too bad nobody here in the States saw it. Too bad post-converted films all look like garbage. The delusional filmmakers go on and on about how good it looks, all of which you can read right here:

Meanwhile, The Host 2, the sequel that is also being produced and distributed by Chungeorahm, will open in theaters in 2013, according to Choi. Although, that project has been in the works for a deathly long time.
